Delta Green formed in 2008 as a Green Community Program through a grant from the Michigan Public Service Commission. The two-year grant project provided energy audits for small businesses and conducted energy information programs with local schools. The audits focused on low-cost, no-cost energy efficiency opportunities for the businesses, and the school activities focused on engaging young people in environmental stewardship in their local communities.
In 2011 Delta Green incorporated as an independent non-profit corporation in the state of Michigan. In December 2011 Delta Green received a Regional Technical Assistance (RTA) grant through the State Energy Office to provide energy audits for commercial building owners in Region 1 - the Upper Peninsula. Delta Green completed five energy audits through the grant program and four more energy audits through the energy office’s direct voucher program. These nine audits represented over 1.1 million square feet of work space assessed for energy efficiency. Our nine participating organizations have completed or are pursuing energy efficiency upgrades that will generate over $100,000 in annual energy savings. No other RTA in Michigan totaled more than 500,000 square feet of audited space. |
